Gone

Gone Trademark Policy

The name “Gone”, the Gone wordmark, and the Gone logo (the “Marks”) are trademarks of David Haukeness.

Gone’s source code is free software under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. The license covers the code. It does not cover the Marks. As permitted by section 7(e) of the AGPLv3, no rights to use the Marks are granted except as described below.

You may

  • Run an unmodified copy of Gone and call it Gone.
  • Show your own name, logo and accent colour on an unmodified copy of Gone through its branding settings (GONE_BRAND_NAME, GONE_BRAND_LOGO and GONE_BRAND_ACCENT; see Branding your instance). The “Powered by Gone” line in the footer must stay, and your name and logo must not be confusingly similar to the Marks.
  • Say truthfully that your project is “based on Gone”, “a fork of Gone”, or “compatible with Gone”, as long as you don’t use the logo or wordmark and don’t imply that this project endorses you.
  • Refer to Gone by name in articles, reviews, talks, and documentation.

You may not

  • Distribute or host a modified version of Gone under the name “Gone” or with the Gone wordmark or logo.
  • Use the Marks, or anything confusingly similar, as the name or branding of a fork, product, service, or domain.
  • Use the Marks in a way that suggests this project or its author sponsors, endorses, or supports you.

If you fork Gone

To run Gone under your own name without changing its code, you don’t need a fork: use the branding settings above.

Give your fork its own name and replace the wordmark and logo. The name appears in web/partials.tmpl.html and in the message catalogs web/messages/*.json (page titles and text, in every language); the logo is in web/img/ (the favicon set and gone-g-*.svg) and docs/brand/. Removing the branding does not mean removing the notices: keep the copyright and license notices, and meet every other term of the AGPLv3.
